Five Types of Hepatitis and Their Symptoms
Hepatitis is a disease that causes inflammation of the liver. It has five different types with various ways of spreading.
As your care providers in Indiana, we would like to share with you the types of Hepatitis from A to E, how you can acquire them, and their signs and symptoms. Please check below.
- Hepatitis A
It spreads through direct and indirect contamination from an infected person’s feces. Its symptoms include fever, fatigue, loss of appetite, vomiting, abdominal pain, dark urine, diarrhea, clay-colored or light stool, joint pain, and jaundice.
- Hepatitis B
This virus can spread through blood, urine, sexual intercourse, and from mother to baby before or after birth. It can live outside the body for seven days, which could infect more people. Symptoms are alike with Hepatitis A.
- Hepatitis C
A person can get this virus through infected blood and needles. Like Hepatitis B, it increases the risk for liver cancer, and its symptoms are also similar to Hepatitis A.
- Hepatitis D
A person can develop this type from Hepatitis B infection. It can spread through contaminated blood and unsafe sex.
- Hepatitis E
This virus is common in areas with a limited water supply and poor sanitation. It spreads through contaminated water and by the fecal-oral route.
